Meet the Vets

Dog care and health is the number one priority of the Iditarod so the dogs have a ton of vets checks. Before the race they have to have blood work and a ECG. Then all the dogs go to a vet check at Iditarod Headquarters in Wasilla, AK.

It takes a lot of vets give each dog a physical, very similar to the one you get when you go to the doctor.
The vets are volunteers from all over the world. They come to the Iditarod because they love dogs.
Ladybird and her musher, Pat Moon, and talking to the vet and making sure she is ready to run. Ladybird is ready to run but she doesn't really like having her physical, kind of like some fourth grade students I know.
The vets check the dogs again at the Ceremonial Start and the Restart.

A team of veterinarians flies into each checkpoint. When a team comes into a checkpoint, the vets check to make sure the dogs are all happy and healthy.
