Meet the Dogs

The dogs of the Iditarod are as different as the mushers.
Most are Alaskan Huskies, a mix of husky, malamute, hound, and whatever else might make a good long distance sled dog.

Their coats are not super thick or super thin.
They tend to be strong pullers with medium coats, good feet, and good appetites.
Some Alaskan huskies look like German Shepards, hound dogs, or even Grey hounds.

Some teams run pure-bred Siberian Huskies. Siberian huskies tend to not be as fast or have the same enhance as Alaskan huskies. They also have a heavier coat so they get hot easier.
Siberians tend to be the dogs that most people think of when they think of sled dogs.
